After the usual Costa coffee, we picked up brother Dave and headed for the Netherfield Indoor kart centre where Stewart and Noah were waiting. It appears that Noah wasn’t too keen on his Dad risking life and limb on the kart track and it didn’t help when he spun out twice in one of our two 15 minute sessions - so was black flagged – and I overtook him! Paula had great difficulty in controlling him. Although Stewart did post a slightly faster time than Dave and myself, the race results didn’t seem to count the laps, as there was no grid start. Only the lap times were recorded plus a grid of overtaking.
We were all in the 39 second bracket and the karts were quite heavy to drive, so the 30 minutes spent wrestling them turned out to be a bigger strain on the shoulders than racing a full sized car for real.
Stewart and Noah headed off and we grabbed some sandwiches from Aldi an date them at Sues.
For the evening, Paula was a bit bushed (must have been Noah!) and I went out for a meal with my pal of 63 years, to ‘The World’s End’ at Lowdham. We reverted to a more traditional meal, both of us opting for a slice of the very tasty meat pie, mashed potatoes and for me, traditional mushy peas, whilst Rich opted for garden peas, plus there was a serving of snow peas (that is NOT traditional!) and carrots (which is). After reminiscing about school friends, school and even school dinners, as old friends are wont to do, we had to have an appropriate dessert. Steamed syrup sponge pud – with cream. Bliss – though I generally have a starter rather than a dessert.
A very pleasant evening, though with my lady at the hotel and Rich’s in New York, a rare time to spend time together with someone who I really miss seeing on a regular basis.
Tomorrow, we head south east for the day, as it is Paula’s turn to catch up with a friend from her schooldays and for me to catch up with a workmate from my Prison Service days.
