After a good sleep and a lukewarm breakfast snack, we headed through to the Captain’s Circle desk as we’d spied who the host was. Our fellow cruisers on the Dawn Princess 2011, will remember the lovely Barbara from Brazil only too well, but then, she was on the entertainment staff. So nice to catch up after 6 years. The last time we did the GB cruise, we were amongst the top 40, most travelled passengers. This time, it looks as though we’ll be in that select group once again, but will miss out on 3rd place by just a few nights! We were looking forward to a Captain’s lunch, but alas, the Captain isn’t having one. Boo! It does explain why we got a slip for a booking at one of the paid restaurants though, which we presume is a compensation.
Then it was Trivia time in the dark and dingy Club Fusion, with Michelle. We had no prearranged team but were joined by Bob and Elaine from Stourbridge. We got on very well and we were also joined by Robert. We managed 13/20. About par for us. The winners got 15, so we didn’t do too badly.
On the way from Club Fusion and heading for the atrium, we met another couple from NZ! Our badminton friends will probably remember the larger than life Diana, from our C grade evening team and ladies day.
A 2pm lunch and a chat to an English couple now living in Thailand. We usually end up sitting with someone and so far, we have had some interesting chats.
Our next appointment was the ‘Cruise Critic’ meeting in ‘Skywalkers’. Out of the 68 people supposedly coming, about 30 turned up and there was no co-ordinator. We chatted to a Perth couple this time, Geoff and Carolyn (Silfox) and missed our afternoon trivia time. We stood and watched in time for the answers and were somewhat surprised to find that their answer for ‘Which City is known as the Venice of the north?’ was ‘St Petersburg’, as the Princes patter said it was Copenhagen, our next stop.
Our first formal night and the usual Captain’s welcome from Justin Lawes, before dinner – where there were just 4 of us again.
The production show was new to us - ‘Magic to Do’. Some genuine, well performed magic tricks but the show couldn’t possibly be held on the Sun or Sea Princess (the Dawn has gone to P & O and is now the Pacific Explorer) as it relied too much on stage lifts/platforms and a fancy backdrop or three. Although some good stuff and some clever stuff, we felt it lacked a bit of colour and fluency and unlike the British Invasion, no foot tapper.
Bed at 23:45 which suits us, but for Copenhagen tomorrow, we have no tour booked and may do the Ho-Ho again as we expect the Ho-Ho bus to be close to the ship.
(I’m gradually catching up with this blog…)
